AC Helmet for traffic Police in Odisha

The Commissionerate Police, following Gujarat and other states’ lead, is now considering acquiring Air Conditioned (AC) helmets to shield traffic constables from sweltering heatwave conditions. Conducting a trial run on Saturday in Bhubaneswar, the Police Commissioner, Sanjeeb Panda, expressed intentions to promptly implement the helmets if feedback proves favorable and vendors can supply them in quantity, emphasizing no budget constraints. He outlined plans for a 3-4 day experimental phase, with procurement strategies contingent on feedback, necessity, and logistical considerations.

Vendor Sanjay Joshi highlighted the adoption of such helmets in Gujarat, West Bengal, and select southern states, noting their effectiveness even in 55-degree Celsius temperatures. Joshi asserted that the helmets could reduce temperatures by nearly 15 degrees and operate for 8 hours following a full 6-hour charge. He underscored the helmets’ Indian manufacture, affirming no supply constraints regardless of quantity demand.

A traffic constable commended the initiative, acknowledging the arduousness of working at traffic junctions amidst intense heatwaves and expressing optimism about the potential relief such gadgets could provide.
