ASI Suicide Follows Recent CBI Raid Controversy

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Vijay Kumar of the Civil Lines police station in North District tragically took his own life with his service pistol in the barrack earlier today. Kumar, originally from Himachal Pradesh, was responsible for managing the government property Malkhana at the station. The cause of his suicide is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.

The Malkhana system at Delhi Police stations was restructured under former Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, dividing it into two categories: government property and case property. The in-charge of government property oversees items such as barricades, torches, ropes, bulletproof jackets, PA systems, and various weapons and cartridges, while the case property in-charge manages seized goods related to ongoing cases.

This incident follows recent turbulence within the station, including the suspension of Chowki In-charge Praveen Kumar after a CBI raid at Majnu Ka Tila Chowki. The SHO was also placed on administrative review. The promotion of havildars to ASI positions includes responsibilities over the storehouse, further complicating the current situation. The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding ASI Kumar’s death.
