Bangladesh Embassy Hit by Vandals During Ongoing Crisis

The Bangladesh Embassy in New York has been attacked and vandalized by protesters amid escalating violence in Bangladesh. Demonstrators breached the embassy and desecrated the premises, including removing a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder and former president of Bangladesh.

Footage of the incident has circulated on social media, showing the extent of the damage inflicted on the embassy. The unrest in Bangladesh, triggered by a contentious issue over government job reservations, has led to widespread violence. Since July, clashes over the reservation policy—initially abolished but later reimposed at a reduced rate by the High Court—have resulted in over 300 deaths and numerous injuries.

The situation intensified further following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure from the country. Despite her exit, unrest continues. Vandalism has spread to her official residence, where her father’s statue was also removed. Attacks have also targeted Hindu temples, including the ISKCON temple. The motive behind the attack on the New York embassy remains unclear, but it underscores the ongoing turmoil affecting Bangladesh.
