BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi Opens to Public with Strict Guidelines: Know the guidelines and dress codes

The BAPS Hindu temple, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Abu Dhabi last month, officially opened its doors to the public today. Alongside the opening, the temple’s website released a set of guidelines for visitors, detailing preferred attire, prohibited items, and rules regarding photography.

According to the guidelines, visitors are instructed to dress modestly, covering the area between the neck, elbows, and ankles. Offensive designs on clothing, including caps and t-shirts, are not allowed, and tight-fitting or translucent garments should be avoided. Additionally, clothing or accessories that create distracting noises or reflections are prohibited.

Pets, outside food, and drinks are not permitted within the temple premises, and the use of drones is strictly prohibited. These regulations are enforced to maintain a tranquil atmosphere and ensure the orderly management of the temple grounds, as stated by the temple authorities.

The iconic structure, recognized as the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, was constructed by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) on a 27-acre site in Abu Mureikhah, near Al Rahba, along the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway, at a cost of approximately Rs 700 crore.

The temple, built in the Nagara style of architecture using sandstone and marble, was inaugurated by PM Modi on February 14 in a grand ceremony attended by nearly 5,000 people. In a social media post, the official BAPS Hindu Mandir handle announced the temple’s opening to visitors and worshippers, along with a video showcasing the architectural marvel.

As the largest Hindu temple in the Gulf region, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi holds significance for the Indian community in the UAE, which comprises at least 3.5 million Indians, many of whom are part of the Indian workforce in the Gulf. Additionally, the UAE already hosts three other Hindu temples in Dubai.
