On Wednesday, February 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the annual retainership list for senior men’s team cricketers for the 2023-24 cycle. Notably, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were excluded from the roster, despite their participation in India’s ODI World Cup campaign the previous year.
In a significant development, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja retained their positions in the top bracket (A+), as the list featured 30 players under central contracts. The decision to remove Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the annual retainership contract stemmed from their limited participation in the ongoing domestic cricket season.
Previously, Ishan Kishan held a Grade C contract, while Shreyas Iyer was categorized under Grade B for the 2022-23 season. The BCCI clarified that both players were not considered for the annual contracts in the latest round of recommendations.
