BJP Gears Up for Odisha Victory: PM Modi Leads Campaign Trail

The BJP’s morale is soaring as it eyes the prospect of forming the government in Odisha after the 2024 elections. Senior leaders of the party are intensifying their efforts with prolonged visits to the state, conducting public gatherings, and engaging with intellectuals to shape a compelling narrative that could secure a majority of seats and contribute to the ambitious goal of ‘400 Par’ seats for the party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the campaign, addressing a series of public meetings in Odisha, starting with a grand reception in Berhampur.

During his address in Berhampur, PM Modi emphasized the significance of the upcoming elections, highlighting the dual yagnas underway in Odisha—one for a robust central government and the other for a BJP-led administration in the state. He reiterated the promise of a “double-engine government” in Odisha, underscoring the party’s commitment to its visionary manifesto focused on youth employment, elderly care, cultural preservation, tourism, agriculture, and various other sectors.

PM Modi set a clear timeline, stating that the expiry date for the ruling BJD is imminent, with the BJP poised to finalize its CM candidate by June 6 and swearing-in the new government by June 10. He underscored the people’s disillusionment with the incumbent parties, portraying the BJP as the beacon of hope for Odisha’s progress, lamenting the lack of development despite the state’s abundant resources.

Highlighting the Modi government’s support for Odisha, PM Modi criticized the BJD for allegedly failing to effectively utilize the funds and schemes provided by the Centre, particularly citing shortcomings in healthcare and infrastructure development. He pledged to implement initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat scheme, promising free medical treatment for the elderly and underserved populations, once the BJP assumes power.

The strategic choice of Berhampur for PM Modi’s address underscores the BJP’s concerted efforts to make inroads into South India and Odisha. Experts believe that victory in Ganjam, with its significant assembly seats, could pave the way for the BJP’s ascendancy in the state. Amidst the fervor of the public meeting, voters expressed their desire for change, citing dissatisfaction with the incumbent leadership and placing their hopes on the BJP’s promises for a better future.
