The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to unveil its final roster of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections following the culmination of its third central election committee meeting, which convened on Saturday. Notable figures in attendance included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. Additionally, on Sunday, former Indian Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria officially joined the BJP, drawing praise from party general secretary Vinod Tawde for his extensive service in the Indian Air Force (IAF). Tawde expressed confidence in Bhadauria’s potential to make significant contributions to the political arena following his distinguished tenure in the defense forces.
Meanwhile, the Congress party unveiled its fourth list of 46 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls on Saturday. Among the prominent names featured are former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh and Karti Chidambaram. However, the party opted to maintain suspense regarding crucial constituencies such as Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, for the third consecutive time, the Grand Old Party has nominated its Uttar Pradesh unit chief Ajay Rai to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi.
In a separate development, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy. Responding to Kejriwal’s arrest, the party announced plans to stage protests across all assembly constituencies of Delhi on Sunday. The demonstration aims to denounce what the party perceives as “BJP’s dictatorship” and to protest against the chief minister’s “illegal arrest.” The protest will culminate in a candle march and the burning of effigies as expressions of dissent.
