
The BJP unveiled its roster of candidates for the forthcoming by-elections in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and West Bengal on March 26. Notably, the party has nominated all six former Congress MLAs who defected in Himachal Pradesh for the assembly bypolls.
In Gujarat, the saffron party has put forward five contenders, namely Chatursinh Javanji Chavda for Vijapur, Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhvadiya for Porbandar, Arvindbhai Jinabha Ladani for Manavadar, Chiragkumar Arvindbhai Patel for Khambhat, and Dharmendrasinh Ranubha Vaghela for Vaghodia.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, during a press briefing in New Delhi on March 16, announced that the by-elections for 26 Assembly seats across 13 States would coincide with the Lok Sabha elections starting April 19. Among these constituencies are six in Himachal Pradesh, where Congress MLAs were disqualified due to their involvement in rebellion. The states where these by-elections will take place include Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
