BSP Chief Mayawati Accuses Fake Voting in UP By-Elections, Demands Election Commission Action

The by-elections have concluded, and the results were declared on Saturday. BJP won 6 seats in the by-election, while the Socialist Party secured two seats and the RLD won one seat. However, the BSP failed to secure any seats. Despite the majority, the Socialist Party did not win a single seat. BSP chief Mayawati made a significant announcement regarding this outcome today.

In a press conference, Mayawati accused the by-election of being marred by fake votes. She stated, “The results of the by-elections in 9 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh were declared yesterday, sparking discussions among the public. For the first time in the country, fake votes were cast through ballot papers to manipulate elections. Now, even EVMs are being misused, which is deeply concerning for democracy.”

Mayawati further criticized the practice of fake voting, which she claimed is openly occurring in Lok Sabha, state assembly elections, and by-elections. “We witnessed this in the recent Uttar Pradesh by-elections. This should serve as a serious wake-up call for our country and democracy,” she said. The BSP leader also announced, “In such a situation, our party will refrain from contesting any by-elections in the future.”

She concluded by calling on the Election Commission to take stringent action against fake voting. “If the Election Commission fails to act, our party will not participate in any by-elections in the country,” Mayawati asserted.
