The budget session in the assembly is set to begin today, marking the first session since the BJP came to power in the state. During this session, the Mohan government will present the full budget for the financial year 2024-25.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, acting as Finance Minister, will present the budget on the 25th. The session will commence at 11 am with the Governor’s speech, followed by a vote of thanks and discussion on the address. The announcement for the election of the vice president will be made on the 23rd, with voting to take place on the 24th.
The first session of the 17th Legislative Assembly will proceed in two phases, continuing until September 13. The assembly is expected to be active on various issues. After 25 years, a new dynamic will be seen with the BJP occupying the government seats and the BJD serving as the main opposition party.
With the new government and new opposition, fresh issues are anticipated. The BJD has strategized to challenge the government on matters such as fare hikes, ride management, law and order, the ASO attack, and the Balasore violence. The BJP has stated that the government is ready to discuss all these issues.
