An elderly man, Prafulla Sahu, was tragically killed by an elephant’s tusk while attempting to drive it away in Nalachandrapur village, part of Santri Panchayat under Baurapal police station in Anugul district.
Prafulla had received information that elephants were entering farmland and damaging rice crops. Responding to the alert, he went to the field to drive the elephants away. Unfortunately, an elephant attacked him, causing fatal injuries on the spot.
The incident sparked a major outcry among the locals, who demanded compensation for Prafulla’s family. The situation was eventually resolved after the police and forest department intervened, assuring the family that compensation would be provided.
