COVID-19 Update: Spike in Karnataka Cases, Bengaluru Leads

On Wednesday, Karnataka experienced a significant spike of over 75% in new COVID-19 infections, totalling 260 cases. The state reported one virus-related death, maintaining consistency with the previous day, and noted a positivity rate of 3.46%, contrasting with the 2.02% recorded the day before.

Out of the 260 new cases, Bengaluru alone contributed 134, contributing to the city’s active cases reaching 624, as reported by the health department. Despite 228 recoveries, Karnataka’s active caseload increased to 1,175, with the state’s overall COVID tally standing at 40.91 lakhs.

In terms of other districts, Mysuru reported 24 cases, Bengaluru Rural had 20, and Shivamogga reported 11. Dakshina Kannada and Dharwad each recorded nine cases, while Mandya and Ramanagara reported eight and seven new cases, respectively. Tumakuru had six cases, and Bagalkote, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, and Uttara Kannada reported four new infections each. Davanagere and Vijayanagar had three cases each, while Ballari, Chitradurga, and Hassan recorded two cases each. Nine districts had no new cases, and the sole death recorded on Wednesday was from Koppala district.

Addressing testing and hospitalizations, the health department aimed for 5,000 tests daily, resulting in 7,497 samples being tested, with 6,621 using RT-PCR and 876 utilizing Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs).

Among the 1,175 active cases, 1,107 individuals were in home isolation, while 68 were hospitalized. General wards accommodated 45 patients, with two on oxygen support, and 21 were in the ICU, including four on ventilator support.
