Critical situation in Delhi: AQI above 450 in various areas

New Delhi: The air quality in Delhi is in very dangerous situation. The entire Delhi is under a blanket of smoke. This situation is expected to continue further if the authority as well as the citizens will not be serious about it. On the one hand, the citizens of Delhi are suffering from pollution, on the other hand, the measures taken to control the pollution are not effective. So, both need to be serious to bring positive change in such a hazardous situation.

For the fourth consecutive day, the city of Delhi has been shrouded in haze mixed with yellow smog. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the overall AQI in Delhi stands at 346, while it is above 450 in some areas. Air quality in Delhi’s Lodhi Road, Jahangirpuri, RK Puram and Indira Gandhi International Airport areas remains hazardous. The AQI of these places is 438,491,486 and 473 respectively. Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken some urgent steps to improve the air quality. Sector 61, Sector 1 and Sector 116 of Uttar Pradesh’s Noida are in the most critical category. The situation is very complicated not only in Delhi but in the whole of North India.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, there is a need for all governments to work together. Minister Roy urged people to use public transport to control such pollutions. On Wednesday, construction work in areas with more than 400 AQI was banned for 5 days. To reduce vehicular pollution, the government has launched the ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign and will hire 1,000 private CNG buses to strengthen the public transport system. Primary schools are closed in Delhi due to pollution.

Delhi’s health problems have increased due to deadly pollution. Nikhil Modi, a doctor at Apollo Hospital, said that the number of patients with respiratory problems is increasing due to the increase in pollution. More and more people are suffering from cold cough and shortness of breath. People of all age groups are affected by it. Now it is the time to wear masks and there is a need to go out only if necessary, said the Delhi Environment Minister. Rai said, pollution is also increasing in Delhi due to the neighboring states.
