Cyclone ‘Michaung’: 3 days of heavy rainfall in Odisha

The deep depression formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal has taken the form of a storm on Sunday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it will gradually move towards north-west direction and intensify to reach west-central Bay of Bengal near south Andhra Pradesh and adjacent north Tamil Nadu coast by today.

It will then move almost parallel to the South Andhra Pradesh coast and cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on the morning of the 5th. At this time the maximum wind speed will be 90 to 100 km per hour. As a result of this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Odisha for 3 days.

Meteorological Department has warned for the rain in the next 3 days. Yellow warning has been issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts on Monday due to the possibility of heavy rain.

Similarly there is a possibility of heavy to heavy rainfall in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Puri, Malkangiri, Raygada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts in Tuesday.

Light to moderate thundershowers are likely to occur in most districts of coastal Odisha like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Anugol, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput.

On the other hand, the sea will be rough from 4th and 5th. Therefore, fishermen have been advised not to go into the deep sea in the southwest Bay of Bengal. In addition, a warning has been issued to the West Central Bay of Bengal and Odisha coastal areas till 6th.
