Delhi Court Extends Arvind Kejriwal’s Custody till 1st April

The Delhi court has extended the custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until April 1. During the hearing at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, the ED informed the court that Kejriwal had not provided any password, denying access to his digital data. The agency sought a one-week extension for further interrogation, citing Kejriwal’s lack of cooperation and the need to confront him with additional individuals, including AAP Goa candidates.

In response, Kejriwal defended himself, emphasizing that despite the ongoing investigation for two years, no convictions or formal charges have been brought against him. He questioned the basis of his arrest, highlighting the absence of a clear money trail in the alleged Rs 100 crore liquor scam and accused the ED of targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for political motives.

Contrary to Kejriwal’s claims, the ED asserted that their actions were based on evidence and not influenced by his political position. They reiterated their focus on the specific case at hand, dismissing any special treatment based on Kejriwal’s status as Chief Minister. The arrest stemmed from allegations related to the Delhi liquor policy scam, with the AAP leader remanded into ED custody until March 28.

Additionally, the Delhi High Court declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking Kejriwal’s removal from office following his arrest, stating that the matter fell beyond the court’s jurisdiction and was not subject to judicial interference.
