Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed concern on Wednesday night, suggesting that they had received information about an impending raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday morning, potentially leading to his arrest. At 11:50 pm, Atishi tweeted the news, and two minutes later, Saurabh Bharadwaj echoed the information in Hindi.
These late-night warnings arose following Kejriwal’s third consecutive failure to comply with ED summons related to an alleged liquor scam. Kejriwal deemed the summons as illegal, leading to strong reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kejriwal had previously evaded the first summons on November 2, citing administrative responsibilities in Delhi before Diwali and engagement in election campaigning in Madhya Pradesh. The second summons, scheduled for December 21, coincided with Kejriwal’s departure for a vipassana retreat a day earlier. On December 3, he wrote to the ED explaining his commitments to Rajya Sabha elections and expressed readiness to respond to the questionnaire, stating that the agency had not responded to his earlier letters seeking clarification on the reasons for his summoning.
