Doctors Strike Across India Following Kolkata Incident

Outrage has spread across the country following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident has led to widespread protests and strikes by doctors and medical students demanding severe punishment for the accused.

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has declared that its indefinite strike will continue in response to the heinous crime. The protest has led to significant disruptions in medical services across the country. In Delhi, resident doctors at major hospitals including AIIMS, Safdarjung, RML, Loknayak, and GB Pant are on strike for the second consecutive day. This has resulted in the suspension of OPD services and regular surgeries.

Protests have also erupted in Lucknow, with doctors and medical students from King George’s Medical University (KGMU) participating in demonstrations. Similarly, in Mumbai, doctors at Nair Hospital have joined the protests, leading to the closure of OPD services. The ongoing strike and protests underscore the medical community’s demand for justice and highlight the widespread concern over safety in medical institutions.
