ECI Orders Removal of Key Officials Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken significant steps ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, issuing directives for the dismissal of key officials in several states. On Monday, March 18, the ECI ordered the removal of the Home Secretary in six states: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, the Election Commission directed the removal of the Secretary of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, according to reports from news agency ANI.

Furthermore, in a move indicative of the Commission’s proactive stance, it has initiated actions to remove the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, Rajeev Kumar. These measures underscore the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring a fair and impartial electoral process as the country prepares for the upcoming general elections.
