Farmers Temporarily Suspend ‘Delhi Chalo’ March

During a press conference on Wednesday, a farmer leader announced the temporary suspension of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march for two days. Sarwan Singh Pandher, head of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, stated that the pause is intended to address the incident in Khanauri and plan the next steps for their movement.

The decision to halt the protest march came after the Centre requested further discussions. Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda emphasized the importance of considering the interests of farmers nationwide when formulating policies and assured that their concerns would be addressed in the upcoming days.

Despite the resumption of the protest march following unsuccessful talks with the government, farmer unions rejected the proposal presented by the government panel. The proposal included government agencies purchasing pulses, maize, and cotton crops at MSP for five years upon signing a contract with farmers.

Amid the pause in protests, thousands of farmers will continue to camp at the two border crossings, advocating for demands such as a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and a farm debt waiver.
