On Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred at Tokyo’s Haneda airport when a Japan coast guard aircraft collided with a Japan Airlines passenger plane on the ground. The collision resulted in the death of all five people aboard the coast guard aircraft, while the passenger plane, carrying 379 passengers and crew, burst into flames. Fortunately, all passengers and crew on the JAL airliner were safely evacuated, as confirmed by Japanese Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito.
The smaller plane, en route to central Japan after the recent earthquake, lost five of its six crew members in the accident. The captain survived but sustained injuries, and the cause of the collision is yet to be determined, according to Saito. Social media and television footage depicted the JAL airliner moving along the runway before a dramatic eruption of flames and smoke, emphasizing the severity of the incident.

Videos posted on social media platforms showed passengers evacuating the aircraft through inflatable emergency slides while flames engulfed the rear of the plane. Despite the swift evacuation, fire engines struggled to extinguish the blaze, which eventually consumed the entire Airbus 350 aircraft that had arrived from New Chitose Airport in Sapporo. The passengers included eight children in this tragic event at Haneda airport.
