Former ISI Chief Lt Gen Faiz Hamid Arrested by Pakistan Army

Former head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, Lt Gen Faiz Hamid, has been detained by the Pakistan Army following a court of inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the inquiry substantiated the allegations against Hamid, leading to his arrest and the initiation of a field general court-martial.

Hamid, who previously served as the Corps Commander of Peshawar, faces multiple charges of violating the Pakistan Army Act after his retirement. The investigation revealed evidence of misconduct. In addition, a private housing scheme, Top City, has accused Hamid of raiding their office and the owner’s residence, alleging misuse of power and involvement in a murder case.

The Supreme Court directed the army to probe Hamid in November last year, citing serious allegations that threatened national integrity. An inquiry committee was established in April to determine if Hamid had abused his authority. The ISPR has stated that Hamid will face appropriate legal action under Pakistan Army regulations. The arrest and court-martial proceedings represent a major development in the ongoing investigation into the former ISI chief.
