In an unexpected development, Gautam Gambhir, a Member of Parliament representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, has declared his intention to withdraw from active political involvement. The former cricketer, known for his tenure in East Delhi, took to Twitter to communicate his decision to his followers and supporters. He expressed his eagerness to refocus on his cricketing commitments, emphasizing his deep-rooted passion for the sport that preceded his venture into politics.
In his tweet, Mr. Gambhir conveyed his request to the Honorable Party President, JP Nadda, seeking relief from his political responsibilities to concentrate on his upcoming cricket engagements. He expressed gratitude to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for affording him the opportunity to serve the public, signing off with the patriotic slogan, “Jai Hind.”
Since joining the BJP in March 2019, Gambhir has emerged as a prominent figure for the party in Delhi. His victory in the East Delhi constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, by a significant margin of 6,95,109 votes, underscored his influence within the political arena. However, his decision to step away from politics surfaces amidst speculations that he may not secure a ticket for the forthcoming 2024 polls.
