Thorns now line the roads and a massive concrete wall blocks access as authorities seal the Shambhu border with three layers of barricades. Security forces have tightened measures to counter the renewed Delhi Chalo march by farmers, which resumes today. A heavy police presence guards the border, with thorn barriers set up to deter the protesters.
Frustrated by the government’s silence, farmers are once again heading to Delhi. On Friday afternoon, 101 farmers began their march from Punjab. When they reached Haryana, police intercepted them, firing tear gas that left many farmers injured.
The farmers paused their protest until Sunday, granting the government a day to initiate talks on their demands. With no action taken on Saturday, the farmers have declared they will resume their march to Delhi today.
In response, police have intensified preparations. At the Delhi-Haryana border, iron spikes now litter the roads, concrete walls stand as barriers, and a large police contingent is on high alert to stop the marchers.
Haryana’s Director General of Police (DGP) has written to Punjab’s DGP, urging them to keep media personnel at least 1 km away from the protest site to ensure security and maintain law and order.
