Heavy Rains Cause Chaos in Koraput, Malkangiri

Koraput and Malkangiri districts have experienced continuous low-pressure rains for the past two weeks, leading to landslides and traffic disruptions in hilly areas. The Regional Meteorological Center has issued a yellow warning, forecasting heavy rain for the next 2 to 3 days.

Malkangiri district recorded the highest rainfall, causing all rivers to swell. Landslides in the hilly areas have resulted in traffic jams. The danger signal No. 3 issued for the Godavari River has alarmed residents in the Saberi and Sileru river basins. The district administration is focusing on the areas heavily affected by the Polavaram project.

In Koraput district, heavy rains have been reported in Shani district, with a record rainfall of 67.79 mm this year. Bipariguda received the maximum rainfall of 163 mm, leading to widespread flooding, uprooted trees, and damaged houses. In Lamtaput, school children faced dangerous conditions while crossing roads. In Barniput area of Jeypore, images emerged showing dead bodies being carried across the river. The administration remains on high alert due to the ongoing rain warning in these districts.
