Hezbollah Strikes Northern Israel After Commander’s Death

Hezbollah has launched multiple rocket attacks on northern Israel in retaliation for the killing of its top commander, Fuad Shukr, by an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday. The rocket barrage, which occurred on Thursday, marks Hezbollah’s first significant offensive since Shukr’s death and has been followed by threats of continued attacks from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing dozens of Katyusha rockets in response to Israel’s actions, which they say resulted in civilian casualties. The group, supported by Iran, has vowed to persist with its attacks. In response, the Israeli Air Force intercepted the Katyusha rockets mid-air, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reporting that only five rockets managed to cross the border, causing no damage. The IDF stated that all other rockets were destroyed before reaching their targets.

Israel has accused the Lebanese government of complicity in Hezbollah’s attacks and asserted on social media platform X that it will not tolerate attempts to terrorize its citizens. In related news, Israel faces accusations from Iran and Hamas over the recent death of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Israel has yet to comment on these claims.
