The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center forecasts a 4 to 6-degree Celsius rise in temperatures across Odisha starting today. Concurrently, temperatures are expected to peak at 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
According to the weather department, daytime temperatures are projected to climb by four to six degrees Celsius across most regions of the state over the next three to four days. The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, relayed through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that minimum temperatures (night temperatures) are anticipated to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with minor fluctuations thereafter across various districts of Odisha.
Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Odisha this year, particularly during the months of July through September, with above-average precipitation expected. The prevailing El Nino effect, affecting both rainfall patterns and temperatures, is currently active over India.
The forecast predicts intense heat across Odisha, with a trough line active over northern Odisha and a cyclonic circulation prevailing over southern Odisha and nearby areas. Consequently, localized rainfall is anticipated in certain parts of Odisha today, with the potential for light rain accompanied by lightning in select districts along the south coast.
Earlier projections from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar had indicated the likelihood of lightning and rain across up to seven districts in Odisha.
