Impersonator and Fraudster Caught After Dubai Escape

Satyajit Samal, a 34-year-old resident of Chandrashekharpur, was apprehended by the Commissionerate Police in a high-profile sting operation, dubbed ‘Operation Majnu.’ Samal, who fraudulently posed as an IB Inspector, deceived multiple women through matrimonial sites and is now facing serious charges.

Samal, who managed to marry five women and had 49 more victims lined up, was caught after a critical phone call led the police to his whereabouts. Initially, he defrauded one woman of Rs 36 lakh and a Baleno car, and another woman of Rs 8 lakh and a Bullet motorcycle. The scheme primarily targeted widows, divorced women, and young women, exploiting their trust and financial resources.

The police seized Rs 2.1 lakh in cash, a car, a firearm, ammunition, and three bank accounts from Samal. He was also found to have used loans taken in the victims’ names for personal gain, including purchasing and renting out cars. Following the discovery of his fraudulent activities, he fled to Dubai but was eventually lured back to Bhubaneswar under the pretense of a date, where he was arrested. Two cases have been registered against Samal at the Bhubaneswar Capital Police Station. The police continue to investigate the case to identify and assist any additional victims.
