The 46th session of the World Heritage Committee has commenced at Bharat Mandap in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this historic meeting, marking the first time it is being held in India. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi announced a donation of $10 lakh to the World Heritage Committee.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Shekhawat was also present at the opening ceremony. In his inaugural address, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that hosting the World Heritage Session will pave the way for new achievements in India. He noted that over 350 pieces of Indian heritage have been repatriated in recent years, reflecting global generosity towards India’s ancient history.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the World Heritage Committee’s session in India is a significant milestone. He also announced a proposal to include ‘Moidam’, the ancient heritage of Northeast India, in the UNESCO World Heritage List. If accepted, it will be India’s 43rd World Heritage Site and the first Cultural Heritage Site from Northeast India. The World Heritage Committee session, which started on July 21, will continue until July 31.
