Odisha’s Mega Millet Plan for the World: International Millet Conference on 9th and 10th

Odisha Millet Mission has become a big model in the world. A two-day international millet conference will be organized in Odisha as the first state of India on the 9th and 10th November.

Odisha is the first state in the country to celebrate November 10 as Millet Day. Millet cultivation is increasing in Odisha every year. The United Nations is celebrating 2023 as the International Year of the Millet. Every year Odisha celebrates 10th November as Millet Day. The aim is to promote the farmers of Millet and increase the popularity of millet at home.

Odisha is organizing a two-day International Millet Conference on 9th and 10th of November as the first state in India to take Millet to the next stage. This conference will be held in Bhubaneswar. Farmers, researchers, traders, organizations working on millet will participate in this two days conference. The benefits of Millet will be discussed here. The conference will mainly focus on increasing the demand for millets in the world. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment is working hard under the vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the successful organization of the conference. The world will hear how Millet has been extended to 177 blocks in 30 districts of Odisha by combining scientific methods and traditional knowledge.

Millet is rich in iron and protein. By eating this, the body stays healthy and fresh and reduces many diseases. Millet farming has become profitable in times of climate change. Odisha is the first state to arrange MSP for farmers and to double their income and in PDS, Millet is being given with rice at Rs 1. Also Govt. has made a special market for farmers and Mission Shakti Café too. Later, millet will be included in lunch with millet cafe in our hospital. Millet cultivation is increasing every year in Odisha, said Chief Administrative Secretary.

In 2017-18, the state government launched Millet Mission. The Department of Agriculture has taken it as a pilot project till 2027. The international conference will feature technical sessions, B2B meetings, food festivals, quizzes on millets and cooking competitions.
