The International Olympic Association has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee. Russia is accused of violating the Olympic charter by involving sports bodies in four regions in eastern Ukraine.
IOC spokesman Mark Adams said the Russian Olympic Committee’s move on October 5 violated the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian Olympic body.
He said that the IOC Executive Board has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee with immediate effect. After being suspended, Russian players can be able to participate in next year’s Paris Olympics.
In fact, Russia has violated the Olympic Charter by recognizing the Regional Olympic Councils in Luhansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic, Kherson and Zaporizhia. These areas earlier used to be a part of Ukraine. But Russia attacked Ukraine and recognized these areas and declared them independent. IOC has taken this action regarding all this things.
Let us tell you that Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal had announced some time ago that if Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics in 2024, they will boycott these games. Referring to the attack by Russia, he had demanded the Olympic Association to suspend Russia.
