The recent Delhi coaching center accident, which claimed the lives of three students, has ignited a strong reaction in Parliament. On Monday, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha engaged in significant discussions, with MPs demanding a thorough investigation and strict accountability for those responsible.
In the Rajya Sabha, the debate took a poignant turn as members from across party lines voiced their concerns. Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan highlighted the personal impact on the victims’ families, saying, “The suffering of the families has not been acknowledged. We have lost three young lives, and this should not become a political issue.”
Bachchan also criticized the Municipal Corporation, drawing from her own experiences with poor municipal services. She stated, “The performance of the Municipal Corporation is unacceptable. My house in Mumbai was flooded up to my knees when I came here to take my oath. The agency’s inefficiency is evident, and no action is ever taken.”
Concluding her remarks, Bachchan recited lines from a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, underscoring the personal burden of grief and the need for empathy: “Everyone carries their own burden; sympathy is the only custom. Each person must bear their own happiness and sorrow separately. Friends, we must part ways.”
