JN.1 COVID Sub-Variant enters Odisha: Reports Two Cases JN.1 COVID Sub-Varian

Two instances of the highly transmissible Covid sub-variant JN.1 were identified in Odisha, raising concerns among state health authorities. The total number of Covid-positive patients in the state has reached 28. According to data from the Odisha Health and Family Welfare department, the affected individuals are from Sundargarh and Bhubaneswar. The patient from Sundargarh has recovered, while the one in Bhubaneswar is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The Sundargarh patient had a recent travel history to Kerala. Odisha Health Director, Bijay Mohapatra, reassured the public, stating that the mutation of viruses into various variants is a normal process. Given the significance of JN.1, samples from all Covid-positive patients will be sent for genome sequencing.

Out of the 28 Covid-positive cases in Odisha, two patients were found with the JN.1 variant through genome sequencing. The Sundargarh patient completed home isolation with no symptomatic contacts. The Bhubaneswar patient is in stable condition at a private hospital.
