The treasurer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Govind Dev Giri, stated that the old idol of Ram Lalla, currently in a makeshift shrine, will be positioned in front of the new idol set to be consecrated at the temple on January 22. Giri revealed that over Rs 1,100 crore has been spent on constructing the Ram Temple, with an additional Rs 300 crore anticipated for completion.
Last week, a 51-inch Ram Lalla idol was placed in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, sculpted by Arun Yogiraj. Giri explained that out of three idols created, Yogiraj’s was chosen for “Pran Prathistha.” The remaining two idols will be honored in the temple, with one retained for measuring the clothes and ornaments of Prabhu Shri Ram.
Highlighting the significance of the original Ram Lalla idol, Giri emphasized its importance despite its smaller size. He clarified that the original idol, five to six inches in height, would be placed in front of the new one, as the larger idol is more visible from a distance.
Concerning the temple’s construction expenses, Giri mentioned that more funds, around Rs 300 crore, might be required for an additional storey. He praised the selected idol’s attributes, including its child-like face, divine glow, and proportionate limbs, noting the difficulty in choosing among the three idols.
Giri discussed the significance of the event after 500 years, likening it to Deepavali. He expressed the prevailing sense of love and respect as Lord Ram is reinstated in his original place. Observing a shift towards spiritualism among the youth, he acknowledged their logical thinking while emphasizing the enduring principles of Dharma, dismissing misconceptions about Sanatan Dharma.
