A freight train caught fire on the KK railway line connecting Visakhapatnam and Kirandul near Machhakund station in Koraput district yesterday. The fire damaged around eight coaches of the train.
The fire broke out underneath several coaches of the goods train BVF 60/G9 before Fishkund station in the afternoon. The train driver immediately stopped at Fishkund station and alerted the railway authorities.
Upon receiving the information, the Nandpur fire brigade promptly arrived at the scene. Firefighters worked tirelessly and managed to bring the fire under control by evening. After removing the damaged coaches, the train resumed its journey and reached its destination after 10:00 pm.
The railway department confirmed that the train, carrying iron ore from Bacheli station to Visakhapatnam, caught fire due to friction (hot axle) after crossing Koraput station. However, the main railway line remained operational, and train services were unaffected.
