Storm Fengal will make landfall today. The cyclone will make landfall between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Now it is facing the coast at a speed of 7 km per hour. Rain has started in Puducherry due to the impact of the storm. Cyclone Fengle is now centred 250 km southeast of Chennai. It will move in a west-northwest direction.
It is likely to make landfall over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between Karaikal-Mahamavalipuram by this afternoon. Meanwhile, wind speed will be 70 to 80 km per hour. The meteorological department has predicted that it may reach 90 km in the land.
A high alert has been issued in Tamil Nadu given the storm. All schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been closed by the administration. Similarly, people have been advised not to step out of their homes. Heavy rains continue in Chennai due to the impact of the storm. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the possibility of heavy rain in various places of Chengalpattu, Billupuram, Cuddalore and Puducherry.
However, even though this storm has not directly affected Odisha, some parts of coastal and interior Odisha have received heavy rains along with the Kohla weather. Coastal Odisha including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to receive light rain today.
