Today, Uttar Pradesh celebrates the Devathana festival, but tragedy struck in Kasganj before the festivities. A landslide claimed the lives of 4 people and left 4 others seriously injured. The landslide killed three women and a young girl, while many other women and children remained trapped under the soil.
Over 30 women and children from Kataur, Rampur area had gone to Mohanpura village to collect clay for making houses and stoves. While digging the soil, it suddenly collapsed, burying the women beneath it. They screamed for help as they were trapped.
Hearing their cries, locals rushed to the scene and alerted the police and fire department. Upon arrival, police officers and firefighters immediately began efforts to dig out the trapped victims using JCB machines.
As of the latest reports, rescuers have recovered 4 bodies from the soil, including 3 women and a young girl. They have also rescued 4 individuals in critical condition, who were taken to a nearby medical centre. Rescue operations continue as efforts are underway to free more women and children still trapped. Authorities expect the death toll to rise.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and ordered the rescue operations to be intensified. He also directed authorities to provide all necessary medical assistance to the seriously injured.
