Mahesh Kumawat arrested by Delhi police in Parliament security breach case

Mahesh Kumawat arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the Parliament security breach case sheds light on the ongoing investigation surrounding this disturbing incident. Following his apprehension on Saturday, the Delhi Police confirmed Kumawat’s participation in a conspiracy targeting the Lok Sabha, leading to his subsequent placement in a 7-day police custody as reported by PTI. The arrest occurred after an extensive period of questioning during which officials traced and interrogated Kumawat regarding the security breach.

Mahesh Kumawat’s presence in Delhi on the day of the attack, when two individuals entered the Lok Sabha and disrupted the session by throwing smoke bombs, created a nationwide sense of unease. Lalit Jha, believed to be the mastermind of the entire operation, sought refuge at Kumawat’s hideout in Rajasthan during the police search. Additionally, Kumawat’s involvement extended to the destruction of mobile phones belonging to the four individuals previously arrested in connection with the Parliament security breach case, according to India Today.

Further complicating the situation, Delhi Police officials revealed that Mahesh Kumawat had been in contact with Neelam Devi, who was protesting outside the Lok Sabha at the time of the smoke bomb attack. Neelam Devi, along with Amol Shinde, engaged in protest activities, launching colored smoke bombs into the air while vocalizing demands against authoritarianism. The police disclosed that the intention behind the attack was to create chaos in the country and exert pressure on the government to meet the attackers’ demands.

The investigation has expanded to include Mahesh Kumawat’s cousin, Kailash, who is currently being questioned by the Delhi Police but has not been arrested at this stage. The incident on December 13, involving the intrusion into the Lok Sabha chamber and the deployment of smoke cannisters, was a coordinated effort by individuals seeking to disrupt parliamentary proceedings and instigate anarchy. In total, six people have been arrested in connection with the case, emphasizing the complexity of the ongoing investigation.
