Man escapes from Police Custody During Court Transfer in Odisha

According to reports, a man who was being held in connection with a criminal case managed to evade the police before his scheduled appearance in court in Narasinghpur, located in Odisha’s Cuttack district. The fugitive, identified as 30-year-old Bapuji Rout from Paika Barabati village, reportedly escaped from the custody of Kanpur police on Wednesday while being transported for a court appearance before the Executive Magistrate in Narasinghpur.

Rout, along with another accused, was being taken to the Magistrate-cum-tehsildar’s court when he made his escape. The incident occurred in front of the magistrate’s office room, causing a delay in the proceedings for producing the accused before the court. The police team present at the court had to wait from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, during which time Rout took advantage of alleged security lapses and fled.

In response to the escape, a joint team comprising Kanpur and Narasinghpur police launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the fugitive. However, as of now, the whereabouts of the accused remain unknown.
