Manipur faces escalating turmoil as violence grips the state. The discovery of six missing persons’ bodies in Jiribam district’s Barak River has intensified tensions. Protesters attacked the homes of three ministers and six MLAs on Saturday, prompting the state government to impose a curfew in five districts and suspend internet services in some areas. Officials confirm that the situation continues to worsen daily.
Protesters burned down the house of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s nephew, leading security forces to disperse them with tear gas. They also attempted to storm the Chief Minister’s residence but were thwarted by security personnel.
The protesters targeted ministers including Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan, Urban Development Minister Owai Khemchand, and L Susindro Singh. In response to the violence, authorities enforced a curfew in Imphal East and West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching districts.
Suspected Kuki insurgents abducted six Metei community members over the last five days. Authorities recovered the bodies of two women and a child on Saturday, while another woman and two children were found dead on Friday night. These bodies were sent to Assam’s Silchar Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. As tensions rise, the violence in the state shows no signs of abating.
