Mahendra Singh Dhoni has relinquished his role as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with Ruturaj Gaikwad being appointed as skipper ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK confirmed the transition, stating, “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of IPL 2024.” Gaikwad, who has been a key member of the CSK squad since 2019, has participated in 52 IPL matches during this period. The franchise expressed optimism for the upcoming season under Gaikwad’s leadership.
Gaikwad actively participated in the pre-captains photoshoot and engaged with other team captains, marking his debut as captain in the tournament. This marks a significant milestone for the Pune-based youngster as he takes on the responsibility of leading the CSK squad in the IPL.
