
The state-run Nepal Television reported that 128 people died and more than 140 people were injured due to a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Nepal late on Friday night. Officials said the death toll could rise further. In the dark night, the locals are trying to rescue the people buried under the rubble of the building, which is also seen in the video uploaded from the scene.
According to the officials of ‘National Earthquake Measurement Centre’, the epicenter of this earthquake is Lamidanda area of Jajarkot district. The earthquake occurred at 11.32 last night at a depth of 10 km.
Earlier, the news agency ‘Reuters’ reported that a local government official of Jajarkot said that 34 people have died in Jajarkot district. Similarly, a police officer said that 35 people died in the neighboring West Rukum district.
The Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal said that reports of damage are also coming from other districts including Dilekh, Shaliyan and Ropla.
The earthquake was so strong that it was felt in Delhi and Patna in the state of Bihar, located 500 kilometers away. In Delhi and Patna, people ran out of their houses in fear.
According to the office of Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, three security agencies of the country have been engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured people are being treated at Jajarkot District Hospital.
