WhatsApp is soon to launch a new search bar feature that will allow users to search for others by using their username. This feature will give users more privacy as there is no need for them to share their phone number. According to the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, this new feature will appear as a new tab on the WhatsApp search bar.
For example, you can search for others by name or profile photo. This feature will allow users to choose a username that other users can use to find them. This will be especially useful for those who don’t want to share their phone number. Usernames will be completely optional. It means users can also connect with others using their phone numbers as before.
According to a report, users can add, delete or change their username whenever they want. This will allow you to adjust your privacy settings to suit your individual needs. This new feature is still under development and will be introduced in future updates of the WhatsApp. It is not yet clear whether this feature will be available for both Android and iOS.
