New guidelines from UGC: Now students can do one-year PG course

With the aim of improving the education system of the country, the central government is making many changes in the education sector. Therefore, according to the New Education Policy (NEP 2020), many changes have been seen in the field of higher education. However, new guidelines have been issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to UGC, even four-year UG degree holders can do a one-year PG course. Therefore, students will have the option to choose their course route and subject. UGC will launch a new syllabus for the post graduation courses. A new framework has been prepared by the UGC for this course and the UGC has approved it for its commencement this month. Along with this, a plan has also been prepared after receiving feedback from various stakeholders.

NEP-2020 has the option of PG Diploma if any students want to drop out after completing one year of course. But now the PG course will be one year for only those students who have completed 4 years degree. Along with this, the two-year PG course will continue for the students who have passed the three-year degree course. Students can choose any subject studied for graduation course as an alternative to PG. Those who have passed UG course with major and minor can choose major or minor subject in Masters programme. The guidelines state that students will be given the opportunity to choose subjects of their choice.
