Odisha Cabinet approves 14 significant proposals

The Odisha Cabinet, convened in Bhubaneswar under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, granted approval to 14 significant proposals spanning 12 departments during its Monday meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan’s conference hall.

Following the session, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena informed the media that out of the 15 agenda items presented, 14 were sanctioned, with one item reserved for further deliberation.

A landmark decision impacting the state’s industrial and economic trajectory emerged as the Cabinet endorsed a special incentive package for the JSW Group’s expansive Electric Vehicle and component manufacturing initiatives at Naraj in Cuttack and Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district. These projects, collectively representing an investment exceeding Rs 40,000 crore and offering employment potential for over 11,000 individuals, are poised to catalyze unprecedented industrial growth and job opportunities in the region.

The JSW Group’s proposed Electric Vehicle and EV battery manufacturing venture at Naraj, boasting a 50 GWH capacity and positioned as the world’s largest single-location project in this domain, received approval. Additionally, the company aims to establish an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Plant for EVs and components at the same site in two phases, with a total investment of Rs 25,000 crore and job creation for over 4,000 individuals.

Furthermore, JSW envisions a third phase, involving the establishment of an EV components manufacturing complex, encompassing a Copper smelter and Lithium smelter in Paradip. This phase, with a planned investment of Rs 15,000 crore, anticipates generating employment opportunities for more than 7,000 people, marking a significant stride in the state’s foray into this burgeoning sector.
