Odisha to Witness Rare Saturn Occultation Tonight

Tonight, the Moon will hide Saturn from view for over 30 minutes, treating stargazers to a rare cosmic event. The Moon will pass directly between the Earth and Saturn, blocking the planet from sight in an occurrence known as an occultation.

The Moon’s orbit will bring it in front of Saturn, causing the planet to disappear and reappear as it moves across the sky. This alignment of the Earth, Moon, and Saturn makes possible the rare sight of the Moon’s shadow on a planet, usually only seen during a solar eclipse.

Stargazers in Odisha can witness this celestial event, provided the sky is clear, between 1:30 AM and 2:37 AM. The Moon will move in front of Saturn, hiding it from view, and then reveal it again as it continues its orbit.
