A 51-year-old man, severely injured in the collapse of a metro wall in the national capital earlier today, has tragically passed away, as confirmed by a senior police official. Concurrently, the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has declared compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the deceased’s family and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Furthermore, DMRC announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 50,000 for individuals with minor injuries and Rs 2.5 lakh for those with severe injuries. Anuj Dayal, the Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, stated that two DMRC officials—a manager and a junior engineer from the civil department—have been promptly suspended pending further inquiry.

The incident, identified as a side slab collapse at Gokulpuri metro station, claimed the life of Vinod Kumar, a resident of Karawal Nagar, New Delhi, while leaving four others injured. The injured individuals, identified as Ajit Kumar (21), Monu (19), Sandeep (27), and Mohd Tazir (24), all residents of New Delhi, are undergoing treatment.

DMRC has pledged to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to implement necessary preventive measures and mitigate future occurrences. They have also shared comprehensive details with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).

Following the incident, which occurred at 11 am, a portion of the boundary wall at Gokulpuri metro station collapsed, damaging two motorcycles and two scooters. As a precautionary measure, train services on the stretch from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar are operating on a single line to address the fallen portion towards the Up platform at Gokulpuri station, temporarily closing it. However, train services on the rest of the Pink Line remain unaffected.
