Major accident on Christmas Day: A passenger ship sank in the Arabian Sea near Calangute beach in Goa. The incident occurred at 2 pm on Wednesday during Christmas celebrations.
A 54-year-old man lost his life in the accident, while rescue teams saved 20 passengers and admitted them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Among the passengers were a six-year-old child and a woman, but most were not wearing life jackets, according to a police official.
The boat carried 13 family members from the Khed region of Maharashtra. When the ship began to sink, a crew member from Drusty Marine quickly intervened, alerted backup teams, and coordinated rescue efforts.
Drusty Marine, a government-appointed lifeboat agency, deployed 18 lifeboats to save the passengers. The lifeboats arrived swiftly, ensuring the safe evacuation of all those on board except the deceased.
