Pausha Purnima: Deities Adorned in Majestic Suna Besha at the Temple

On the occasion of Pausha Purnima, temple priests will adorn Sribalabhadra, Sri Jagannath, and Devi Subhadra in Suna Besh or Raja Rajeshwar Besh.

Each year, priests gild the fourth idol on the Ratna Singhasan four times. During Pausha Purnima, they embellish the idols on the jewelled throne with golden ornaments after performing the morning incense rituals. Today, the deities will shine brilliantly in their golden attire.

Priests will place the golden plough in Lord Balabhadra’s hands, while Srijagannath will hold the conch wheel. They will decorate his feet with Shree Payar, and his hands with Shree Bhuj, and add numerous intricate gold ornaments to complete his majestic appearance.

Yesterday, priests began preparations by sanctifying water for the rituals. Today, they will carry out all ceremonies using this holy water. After the morning incense ceremony, they will reveal Mahaprabhu’s golden form. At night, during the Lada Singha Besh, they will finish the Nawa Besh ritual by adorning the Lord with a variety of flowers.

Tomorrow, devotees will celebrate Makar Sankranti by offering corn, rice, and bow smoke near the Lord as part of the sacred rituals.
