In a successful operation, the Commissionerate Police’s Special Crime Unit seized 112 kg of marijuana worth Rs 12 lakh and arrested two mafias, Sapun Behera age 31 and Anant Dakhil age 32, from kandhamala . Acting on a tip-off, three teams of the Special Crime Unit launched ‘Operation Black Smoke’ on Tuesday night. Plainclothes officers on the bike intercepted the suspects’ white car, emitting black smoke, at Jhurda bypass on Tathapalli Street.
The teams, led by ACP Sharat Sahu, ACP KK Hariprasad, and IIC Soumyaranjan Vishal, chased the car, which sped up after crossing Pathpalli Overbridge. The suspects attempted to escape by jumping out of the car on Jala Overbridge but were apprehended by the police . The operation was led by Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda, who announced the success of ‘Operation Black Smoke’ today. The seized marijuana and car have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
