Prabhas Chandra Pradhan Arrested: Millions in Assets Seized

Prabhas Chandra Pradhan, Superintendent of the Balasore Irrigation Department, has been arrested by the vigilance department on charges of embezzlement. An 8-member team from Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj raided seven locations, including Pradhan’s residence in Balasore, early this morning.

The raids revealed an extensive property portfolio, including 106 plots in Odisha and West Bengal, multiple flats, and houses. Among the seized assets were Rs 10 to 15 lakhs in cash and gold jewelry. Additionally, Pradhan owns a five-storey house in Jaleswar and a farmhouse on 17 acres of land in Loknathpur, Jaleswar. The full extent of his wealth is still under investigation.

Pradhan has been a long-serving member of the Balasore Irrigation Department, initially serving as the SDO until 2007. He was later promoted to Superintendent and, from 2020-21, held the position of Superintending Engineer. The vigilance team is also reported to have raided the residences of some developers in the Baltimore area.
